Bedford Maternity and Neonatal Voives Partnership (MNVP)

and

Luton and Milton Keynes
Maternity Voices Partnership (MVP)

If you use, or have recently used, maternity services in these areas, or perhaps you work in maternity services in Milton Keynes then we want to connect with you.

Our members set up this website to inform you about what we do and how you can have your say in how your local maternity services are run and developed.

Use the local area MVP pages to learn more about how what we do.

A MVP is a group of people with a shared interest in our local maternity care provision, including maternity service users (parents and parent representatives) and providers (those working in the service), and we advise the maternity commissioner from the Milton Keynes Clinical Commissioning Group (MK CCG) on how our maternity services should be run. Our aim is to bring the VOICE of the maternity service user to the centre of discussions, taking into consideration how maternity services are working for local parents and how the service can be developed to best meet the needs of these people.  We are a multi-discipline team, bringing a wealth and breadth of knowledge, experience and perspectives to our work.  We are independent of the NHS, we are chaired by a maternity service user representative, and at least one third of our core membership is parent representatives..

What is the MVP?

About Us

To work as an effective, collaborative and dynamic committee of maternity service users, providers and commissioners seeking to ensure that:

  • The wishes, choices and unique physiological, emotional and psychological needs of local women, their partners and babies are placed at the centre of our local maternity services.

  • Our local maternity services are of the highest quality and can be fully accessed by all that need them.

  • Local parents know about their local MVP, feel welcome to join, and are aware of how  they can become involved

Our Vision

What don’t we do?

We meet several time per year to discuss our local maternity services – how they are working for parents and how they should be developed.    We agree an annual work plan and we work collaboratively to progress our work plan. We seek out, listen to and respond to the opinions of local parents across all communities within Bedford, Luton and MK, making extra effort to hear from seldom-heard groups.   We share best practice with other areas, examine and review the latest evidence based-midwifery and obstetric research, as well as local and national developments, to ensure that local women and their families have access to the best quality maternity services.

What do we do?

A core element of the work that we do is listening to the voices of service users.  We want to know about your experience of using our local maternity services, whether positive or not, so that we can use this information to inform our work.  However, we are not a complaints service.  If you would like to make a formal complaint about your maternity care, please contact the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) at your hospital. Further information can also be found on our Questions or Feedback page where you can download a leaflet on PALS. Equally, whilst we value your experience and will use the feedback you provide to us to implement necessary changes, we may not able to address individual concerns; but we can signpost you to the relevant contacts.
